● Overview of current cost of public services in Burlington (taxes + utilities
for homeowners, rent + utilities for renters), as well as the impact of the
proposed bonds that are on the Town Meeting Day ballot on cost for
homeowners and renters at various levels
● Open discussion on affordability, with a focus on creating a space for
people to consider the broader context of all the things we are being
called on to pay for and discuss what we can afford as a community
o This will include an acknowledgement of the inherent inequity of
renting in Burlington, and the fact that many renters want to be
homeowners but have no realistic path for getting there

● Participants will be given a way to communicate collectively and
anonymously to our elected officials what we feel we each can afford in
terms of additional monthly cost of living in Burlington
● This will be cross-referenced with anticipated cost of the bonds, so as to

August 2023 South End Community Social
Hello neighbors! Please come on out to Calahan Park - Sunday August 20 for a FREE community meal and social event. It's happening from 3:00 to 5:30 right next to the playground, where the big oak tree used to be. :(
Bring your families, friends, and neighbors to hang out, eat, and play!
We'll have a few grills going -- feel free to bring grillables and/or a dish to share. There'll also be food from the People's Kitchen and a mic set up for sharing music and neighborhood updates. Bring chairs and blankets, songs and stories, and your ideas for how to make the South End even more vibrant and welcoming.

First of all, sincere apologies for scheduling our meeting on the last day of Ramadan. We will be more aware in the future. Eid mubarak!
The Ward 5 Neighborhood Planning Assembly (NPA) meeting will start at 7 PM on Thursday, April 20. Come early to 645 Pine Street for the Planning Department's open house on South End development, then for delicious food from People's Kitchen starting at 6:30. If you can't make it in person, you can attend by Zoom when the meeting starts at 7.
This is your chance to join the NPA Steering Committee. This hardy group of volunteers organizes the monthly meetings and works to build community in Ward 5. If you want to join us, come to the meeting on 4/20 to nominate yourself or get someone else to put your name up for election.

Community activist, former transportation planner, and former NPA Steering Committee member Tony Redington passed away this summer. In recognition of Tony's decades of tireless advocacy on behalf of pedestrian and bicycle safety, his commitment to transportation equity, and his years of teaching Burlington residents about the efficiency and elegance of roundabouts, the Ward 5 Neighborhood Planning Assembly hereby requests that the Shelburne Street Roundabout be officially designated the "Tony Redington Roundabout."

The monthly meeting of the Ward 5 Neighborhood Planning Assembly (NPA). Join your neighbors and City officials for a lively forum on the issues most important to the South End.
Our monthly meeting is the third Thursday of every month at 7:00pm, at the DPW office at 645 Pine St, as well as both virtually via Zoom.
Though our meetings always benefit from broad participation of our community, this time perhaps especially. We have essentially devoted the June meeting to expanding upon May's introduction of housing-focused planning/zoning changes. We hope to discuss development (or not?) of properties adjacent to the Barge Canal and redevelopment near Sears-Lakeside, and more areas highlighted by community members.
